Surfin' USA
Surfing is one of, in my opinion, one of the best sports (besides soccer). The only problem for me along with many of you is that I don’t live by the ocean. The only time you actually get to surf is when you go on vacation. Even then if you travel to a popular vacation spot its hard to catch a wave because of all the people. So I have derived a list of quiet surf beaches where you can hang ten without all the people.
Montauk Point, NY- Montauk is a small town on the tip of long island. most famous for its fishing but offers great variety for surfing because of a sandbar and a reef.
South Padre Island, TX- When I think of Texas I generally think cowboys and ranches not surfing. But South Padre Island offers great waves. to catch big waves go during hurricane season(if its safe) because summer months produce smaller waves.
Aleutian Islands, AK- If you are up for an adventure, Aleutian Islands are a great place to surf. But make sure you pack your wet suit because water only reaches about 50 degrees.
La Push, WA- La Push is on the northern coast of Washington near Canada. Less than 1,000 people live there so you might get the whole beach to your selves.
Lost Coast, CA- Lost Coast is a hidden cove on the coast of nor-cal. Not very easy to get to but once you get there you’ll be happy you made it. very secluded and very beautiful.
Sunset Cliffs San Diego, CA- Sunset Cliffs is definitely for higher skill level surfers. the trek down to the water is difficult and the cliffs make the surfing dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing. But the waves are spectacular, especially in winter.
Santa Cruz, CA- We cant make a surf list without having Santa Cruz. You might experience some small crowds, but not huge ones. considered the “surf city” of America. Has beaches for all skill levels and lots things to do on low tide.
Haleiwa, HI- If you are a real surf fan you have heard of Oahu’s north shore. Home of pipeline, and some of the biggest waves in the world. More for advanced surfers with waves that can reach 50 feet.
Paia, HI- The waves on the north shore of Maui aren’t as big as Oahu’s, there is still some solid surf, and friendly laid-back locals.
Newport, OR- Our final surf spot has nice long, glassy waves. surrounded by lush forest, just make sure to pack a wet suit because the water there is quite cold.
